Denver Nuggets forward Vlatko Čančar, who left Tuesday’s game in the second quarter due to what the team initially described as a left knee sprain, will be sidelined “for the foreseeable future,” head coach Michael Malone confirmed on Thursday, as reported by Vinny Benedetto of The Denver Gazette.
According to Malone, Čančar and the team are currently evaluating potential treatment options for the injury, which, while serious, isn’t necessarily a season-ending issue.
“It’s not necessarily the end of the season,” the head strategist explained, per Bennett Durando of The Denver Post.
Malone provided further details on the situation, stating, “It could go a couple different ways. We’re still gathering information, letting the knee calm down a little bit. So I don’t want to get doom and gloom. But he’s out for the foreseeable future.”
When asked whether the treatment decision would involve choosing between surgical and non-surgical options, the coach refrained from specifics but acknowledged that multiple approaches are being considered.
“I’m not gonna go into all the details, but some different options will be on the table for Vlatko, and we’ll try to educate him,” he said.
The head coach indicated that the next steps for the 27-year-old forward would likely be finalized within the next week.
